If you submitted the sign up sheet, you’re in.
At the time of writing, we have roughly ¼ of our allocated slots remaining, so if you are thinking about joining, don't delay!
We will make an announcement when sign-ups are closed.
If the page failed to load after hitting submit, and you are unsure if you successfully signed up, please contact a member of staff who can check for you (though we haven’t yet needed a resubmission.)
The tournament is going to be run using a standard double elimination bracket.
For the first phase, there is only one bracket, the “Weiner” bracket. Each player faces off against another, and the winner stays on in the “Weiner” bracket. The loser of the duel isn’t immediately eliminated however, and moves to the “Goulash” bracket. It is only when a player in the “Goulash” bracket loses, that they are eliminated from the tournament.
This means that even if you are eliminated from the “Weiner” bracket in the first round, you still have the chance to rise to the top and win the entire thing!
We have no idea! (yet).
As soon as we have a full tournament, we will push the list of players into our seeding system, and completely randomise the order. There is a fixed mapping from the position you end up in, to a slot in the starting bracket, and these two factors combined determine where you end up, and who you are up against.
The random nature of this seeding process gives everyone an equal chance to face anyone else, and is as fair as we can make it.
Thanks to the double elimination tournament we are running this time, even if you get matched up against the guy running the whole tournament and beaten in the first round, you are not immediately out of the running… Eh Putter? *cough*
We have people competing in (and helping run) this tournament from all over the world. Furthermore, each phase should last a week.
Competitors can pick a time and date for their run that suits them. Details on how to do this will be released shortly before the first phase.
On the main options menu for Take and Hold will be a seed selection control. This can be set to random, or any one seed.
This is currently only available on the alpha branch, but will be rolled out for a full release before the beginning of the tournament.
There will be an announcement before each round. If you missed it, the seed for the first round is seed #5.
You can see the seeds on the tournament tree document which can be found at the following link:

This tournament will be Operator Ori only. We will not be using other characters at any time.
A fairly, but not completely comprehensive list of weapon/equipment categories and enemy spawns can be found at the H3VR fandom wiki page:
https://h3vr.fandom.com/wiki/Operator_Ori
To re-roll, select the "Reload Scene" button on your back of hand menu. This reloads the run at the starting supply room.
If you are not happy with the weapon you are provided with, we allow you to re-roll your weapon up to three times, giving you a choice between up to four unique weapons. You can't revert to a previous weapon by choice though, only take the weapon in front of you. After the third reroll, you must use the weapon you are provided with.
We only count unique weapons as a reroll. If you are presented with a new copy of a weapon you have already rejected, then that roll does not count against you. As an example, if you were to begin with a super shorty, and then rolled another super shorty, you would still have all three of your rerolls.
Unless you were unlucky and got the other variant of the super shorty, that is.
Your moderator will confirm that you are happy with your weapon before your run begins. However you can change your mind and may re-roll until the point you leave the beginning supply room if needed. After exiting the room, the run has been started, and doing it will count as an aborted run.
Anton has just released a new alpha, making sossigun shake reloads a configurable option.
This option will be disabled for the tournament. Sossiguns may be reloaded at an ammunition station however (this remains possible with shake reloading disabled.)
Utility overlays such as Turn Signal are allowed.
Likewise, FPSVR is also allowed. However, we do however suggest that you profile your performance when streaming and adjust your in game settings accordingly before your run, if this is a concern.
External programs and overlays not required for safety and maintaining PC performance are not permitted. Please disable any overlays and other interactions. E.g. stream chat, subscriber reactions.
None.
We recommend using a completely vanilla client.
However BepinX can be disabled by renaming the winhttp.dll file in the H3VR install directory. The runner takes all responsibility for any modifications that may be enabled.
However, the new version of the mod-loader can disable mods from running in game. While the above works, this is probably simpler. than manually changing files.
Navigate to your steamapps/Common directory.
If you don't know where this is, right click on H3VR in your Steam library, Properties, Local Files, Browse, then step up one directory.
Rename the H3VR directory appropriately, e.g. "H3VR_modded"
Back in Steam, in Local Files, click "Verify integrity of game files…" to force Steam to recreate a clean copy of the game in the original location.
To add the modded version of the game back into the library, use the "add non steam game to library" option, pointing at your now separate H3VR_modded installation.
These are a modification, and so not allowed.
No. The runs should be completed only by the competitor, with no outside interference, whether positive or negative.
While limited ammo does add inventory management, the main effect of this is extending time spent outside of holds.
Within a hold, less sossigs are encountered, lowering the difficulty.
There are also fewer encryptions to destroy, in many cases there is only one. This leads to an increased score, as time taken to destroy encryptions is one of the largest factors in scoring.
Yes. Please mention that it’s a shared steam account when signing up. (Account owner, please provide the ID, and the one sharing the account, please just put “shared account”)
You will need separate Discord accounts so that we can contact you individually, and you both need to complete your own sign up form.
In the future, you may want to look into having separate Steam accounts, using Family Sharing to both have access to your games, if nothing else you will both have your own position on the leaderboards this way. We do not require you to do so for this tournament however.
Yes. There is no problem in doing so.
We don’t want anyone negatively affected by performance issues.
We recommend that you profile your performance before you compete, to avoid issues.
However, should the need arise, you may do so. Please find a quiet room before doing so (you’ll want to avoid patrols) and contact your mod. They’ll let you know how to do this before each run.
The settings panel must be locked in place against a wall after use, to prevent it from interfering with the run, as a help or hindrance.
Probably 😉
You get one chance for each run, therefore it will have to be streamed live.
We’re looking for how you do under pressure, not on your best day.
We are pretty flexible!
If you don’t have much experience in setting up streaming, you may prefer to stick with streaming through Discord. The quality is pretty poor, but is sufficient, and more importantly it's easy to set up. Once you're in a voice channel, just click the "screen" button at the bottom and choose the screen or window to stream. You will need to stream the H3 window to get audio (Discord only streams audio from the selected window)
If you have done it before, are feeling adventurous, it just want better quality streaming, then you'll want to setup a Twitch or YouTube stream. Setting that up is outside the scope of this answer.
-popupwindow -screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080
This handy set of startup options can be set in Steam to force the game window into a borderless window of a specific resolution. This lets you set everything up so you can have the window at the same resolution as your stream, with no scaling required. And avoids the need for fullscreen mode, so you can access OBS etc with ease.
I personally also use audio router (https://audiorouter.info/download/) to duplicate my game audio to a separate output, and then capture that. It lets my audio capture be at a consistent volume no matter what my headset is set to, and stops notifications etc from appearing in the audio track.
If anyone else has any interesting tips, let me know and I'll add them here.
If this is really the case, let a/your moderator know in advance.
You will still need to stream to your moderator to have a valid run, but can avoid streaming it publicly.
You will have to use a non public streaming service, e.g. discord (private room for the run) or an unlisted YouTube stream, for obvious reasons.
Speedrunners are doing the whole thing in about thirteen minutes!
We have a time limit of one hour per run. The first few stages of the tournament are one run per person. Later stages will incorporate multiple runs, each one will have the same 1 hour time limit.
The time limit is in place to put an upper bound on a run, but it is lenient. Most runs are about half an hour, plus or minus around ten minutes.
We want everyone to be able to play in their own way without feeling pressured to meet an expected playstyle, but at the same time we will need to set a schedule and going afk to cook dinner during a run will be frowned upon.
We're yet to have anyone using one of the "normal" locomotion options exceed this limit. If you have any concerns, please contact us in advance. You won’t be the first and we aim to accommodate all.
Spirit, who is one of our staff and responsible for, amongst other things, our commentary room, is also an advocate of redirected walking.
You can view an example run on his YouTube channel here:
You may have music playing in the background.
If audible on the stream however, it must be copyright free. If there is a track you would like to have playing that is/may be subject to copyright, please contact us in advance if you need help setting up your stream, so that the music will only be played locally.
Gravity options must be fixed to “Realistic” or “Playful” for each category.
Yes. If that is what you are used to, that is fine.
It is only the settings option to draw bullet trails that is prohibited. You can use any ammunition that you find.
There may be some VODs still available. My first round run can be found here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9805DXZAbI sans commentary as this was my end of the run.
And I also have this commentary from round #3:

Unfortunately I mostly let others host when I was moderating / commentating.
Putter has also kept the following VoDs:

This is something we didn’t get right the first time. We aim to have a complete archive of all runs in this tournament retained in one place for this, and future tournaments.
